About Us

Hi, my name is Debbie Bain.  I am extremely excited to bring Kinderdance International to the Washington area!  I have always loved dance, gymnastics, and fitness as well as academics; so when I learned that Kinderdance incorporates educational concepts into all of their programs, I was thrilled.  I feel it is such a wonderful idea as it adds relevance to learning and helps teach to the total child.  I thoroughly enjoy working with children so

when I retired from the military and learned about Kinderdance, I knew I had found my next career. I began dancing and gymnastics at a very young age.  While in high school and college, I taught and coached gymnastics.  I was a member of my college dance company, and we performed throughout the city.  In addition to teaching gymnastics, I was a substitute teacher for grades K-12, and my last job involved teaching all of the Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for the Army.  I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education with emphasis in Recreation Therapy, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.  Kinderdance combines all of the things I love, and I hope to bring this passion and enthusiasm to your children.  My goal is to make a lasting positive impression on every child we teach and to help them gain the confidence and self-assurance that will lead them through life.

The Kinderdance® developmental curriculum was created by Carol Kay Harsell. Ms. Harsell's vast experience in dance and education include an MA in Physical Education with emphasis in Adapted Physical Education and Dance, a BA in Psychology, and a BA in Dance.  Ms. Harsell is a published author and has conducted extensive research in early childhood education and communication through dance.  She established the American Academy of Dance in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1979 where the Kinderdance program was first conceived.  Ms. Harsell retired in 2011, and Kinderdance®  is now headed by Richard Maltese and his family.  They have retained the great love for children and movement education that Carol brought to Kinderdance®.
